Hi, my name is Sebastian and I am a webdeveloper / devOps based in Munich, Germany. I started programming on the Commodore C64 and Amiga platform coding Basic and Assembler a long time ago (yes, I am that old). But after a while I stopped writing applications and switched to the user side. I got into all the creative software like Deluxe Paint, Corel Draw and finally Illustrator and Photoshop. I even went to art school for two years, taking calligraphie and drawing classes. I planned to study graphic design, but not getting accepted turned out to be a good thing.
After a while I rediscovered my passion for software and computers and started studying at the FH Bonn-Rhein-Sieg. Roughly four years later I ended up with a degree in computer science. Early on in my studies I started developing web applications as a freelancer and for fun. The web never let go of me and here I am, still building web apps and still loving it.
- I am an Apple fan boy
- I am obsessed with burgers
- I love all sorts of board sports
- I have about 50 pairs of shoes
On the job
I am currently working at CHECK24, a big consumer website in Germany. I am employed as Teamlead Webdevelopment, managing a team of webdevelopers to improve and maintain some of the companies websites and services, organizing internal coding dojos, tech talks and workshops. I also manage our JIRA, Confluence and Bitbucket installations and teach other teams how to use these tools efficiently.
Off the job
Another great way of killing my free time is contributing to open source. Mostly PHP related projects or libraries. Some time ago I started a project named phpbu which is short for PHP backup utility. It is a php framework to make backups less painfull. If you are interested, you can have a look at the phpbu website, and find out how to easily backup your stuff, encrypt it and move it to secure locations.
Part Developer / Speaker
What I realy love about coding is that you can allways improve. There is allways something new to learn and to spread the word about.
As much as I am focused on all the technical aspects, design is somehow part of my dna and I still appreciate great design.
Thank you for reading so far and bearing with me.
